​​Two sustainability-themed poster competitions - each with 3 divisions (School Years 9-10 / 11-12 / Youth Aged 18-24*) & prizes!

Individual or team (2 to 5) submissions are accepted.
Multiple submissions (individual/teams) including the same individual are accepted.

   OPTION 1: Promotional poster 
  • Create a poster which promotes or otherwise relates to sustainability​.​
  • Submissions will primarily be judged on creativity, messaging and aesthetics.

​    OPTION 2: Investigation-based poster
  • Create a poster which creatively reports upon a student/youth-led investigation relating to sustainability:
  • Essentially, this is a sustainability-themed version of the National Schools Poster Competition (NSPC) - visit https://ssapostercomp.info/ for details of the NSPC, which includes judging criteria that will also be applied.

Students may also like to consider engaging in workshops to support their statistics, systems thinking and STEM ability - visit https://ssapostercomp.info/workshops/ for options.
Designed to encourage youth engagement with key themes (listed below**) central to the City of Newcastle's Youth Climate Action Program 2025
Activity Details:
OPTION 1: Promotional poster 
  • ​Prizes - per team or individual:
    • ​School Years 9 - 10:  1st - $30
    • ​School ​Years 11 - 12: 1st - $50 
    • *Youth Aged 18-24  (residing in Hunter Region): 1st - $100
    • Plus Winner's Certificates for 1st
    • Additional Prize (in each School Division): 
                           Mini Solar Vehicle Kit (awarded to a higher-performing                                      individual submission)
  • ​Judging criteria: creativity, messaging, aesthetics and general appeal (subjective - decision decided via panellist discussions)
  • Judging panel: may include professionals from City of Newcastle and other professionals in Sustainability fields and beyond ​
​OPTION 2: Investigation-based poster
  • Prizes - per team or individual:
    • ​​School Years 9 - 10:  1st - $100, 2nd - $50
    • ​School Years 11 - 12: 1st - $150, 2nd - $50
    • *Youth Aged 18-24 (residing in Hunter Region): 1st - $200
    • Plus Winner's Certificates for 1st
    • ​​Additional Prize (in each School Division): 
                           Mini Solar Vehicle Kit (awarded to a higher-performing                                      individual submission)
  • ​Judging criteria: View the Judging Criteria PDF
  • Judging panel: independent assessment against the specific judging criteria by multiple statistically-skilled professionals/academics
Important details:
  • Competitions are designed to encourage engagement with key themes (listed below**) central to City of Newcastle's Youth Climate Action Program
    • Enabling youth to creatively support, design, investigate and/or develop sustainability-related solutions that advance the Climate Action Plan 
  • Youth Aged 18-24 Division - only open to Hunter Region residents
  • Submissions which are primarily AI generated will be excluded (AI-generated elements may be included in your overall design)
  • Register at www.ssapostercomp.info - please indicate interest early to assist with administration
  • View the NSPC Rules PDF - aspects transferable to the above two competitions apply, as appropriate, including but not limited to:
    • Registration and Submission: a school teacher (not students) or affiliated home-schooling parent must register and submit posters for the Years 9-10 and 11-12 Divisions

  • Encouraging Clean Technology: Showcasing renewable energy solutions and energy efficiency practices
  • Building a Circular Economy: Promoting waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable consumption
  • Enhancing Urban Green Spaces: Highlighting the importance of biodiversity, tree planting, and water-sensitive urban design
  • ​Supporting Electric Transport: Advocating for the adoption of electric vehicles and/or sustainable transportation methods
