Hunter Science Festival sets Newcastle Museum record!

Thank you to all of YOU! You made this festival the biggest ever Hunter Science Festival with over 7000 people, and broke the Museum's 14-year record of number of visitors in one day (previously 6000, set on the Museum's opening day).
Over the last three years, we have had 4000, 2000 and 4000 people respectively. The increased number of HISH stalls and  advertising was the driving force behind the success. We had attendance from the Lord Mayor for the first time, and Cr Richardson. The festival was featured on the Today Show (NBN), NBN Evening News, 2NUR radio, on the social media pages of Newy With Kids, and on the social media pages of politicians Declan Clausen, Tim Crackanthorp and Meryl Swanson.

Some of the activities included:
  • Two exciting ‘Science of Bushfire’ Shows by Fizzics Education
  • Mini Electric Vehicles – kids and kids at heart built and tested mini electric solar cars
  • HMRI’s Poo Palace – physically voyage through the digestive journey
  • Hands-on activities hosted by Hunter Water – exploring our most precious resource
  • CLEANaS who had a bicycle kids could ride to produce energy to light up different lightbulbs.  The kids loved that so much that they had to stay an extra hour after the festival officially finished to work though all the kids who were waiting in line to have a go.
  • Boat Build - Using only sustainable biodegrade materials and thier imaginations kids had to make a boat they thought would float and test it.
Expo stalls presented by other HISH member organisations including FabLab who brought some super cool robots and Hunter Earth Sciences Discussion Group who had a huge double-table display with rocks and fossils to touch and lots of information to give away.
 Well done all!
