NEWCASTLE, NSW – January 2026 – The Hunter Innovation and Science Hub (HISH) has announced the expansion of its outreach capabilities with the launch of a dedicated Mobile STEM & Skills Fleet. This initiative addresses the critical "distance gap" in regional education, ensuring students in the Upper Hunter and rural NSW have equal access to Industry 5.0 technologies.
Moving beyond static classroom lessons, the Mobile Fleet is equipped to deliver high-impact, equipment-heavy modules directly to schools and community centers. The 2026 rollout focuses on two core streams: Renewable Energy Systems, featuring the new "Mini-EV" solar car curriculum, and Circular Economy Pathways, which introduces students to resource recovery and material science concepts. "We cannot expect the workforce of tomorrow to travel to Newcastle for training," said a Professor Tim Roberts. "By mobilizing our assets, we are bringing the 'Future Skills Foundry' directly to the school gate. This is about building a sovereign industrial workforce, starting in the classroom." The initiative is supported by local industry partners committed to securing a skilled regional talent pipeline. In local libraries as we support the existing community infrastructure. About HISH: HISH is a network of educators, industry leaders, and researchers dedicated to fostering a culture of innovation in the Hunter Region.
